Compounding

The practice of creating a personalized medication that is not available commercially in dose, form, or method of delivery that meets your specific needs.

You may not be able to swallow the tablet, and need it in a liquid. Or you may be allergic to one of the ingredients in the commercially available medication. Or you may need a customized dose.

We make creams, ointments, vaginal and rectal suppositories, suspensions and solutions, troches, gels, sublingual drops, and capsules.

Your medical provider must write a prescription, indicating it is to be compounded for you. If it is available commercially, then it can't be compounded unless there is a specific reason; allergy to component, not available in dose or form you need.

Many insurances will pay for compounded medications, but some do not. It may also depend on what the compound is for and/or the type of compound.

Our compounding pharmacists and technicians have completed specialized training thru PCCA and grow their knowledge and skills through continuing education courses all year.

Yes! Many human medications are used by pets. We can customize them to the right dose or form for your pet. For example, certain medications absorb very well when applied to a feline's thin skin on their ear. So we can make the medication into a cream. We can also add flavors, like chicken, to liquid medications, that pets love.
